Clearing Myths Surrounding Invisalign Treatment
For those who are not so keen on the idea of a mouth full of brackets, wires, and bands, Invisalign can sound like a welcome alternative. In all truth, Invisalign treatment for smile alignment can be a logical alternative for many people. Unfortunately, a handful of common myths can get in the way of seeking treatment with clear aligners if you have smile alignment issues and don’t necessarily want standard braces.
Myth: Invisalign is only good for the mildest smile imperfections.
The state-of-the-art aligners that are used during Invisalign treatment are actually capable of correcting from mild to moderate imperfections or spacing/alignment issues. While the aligners can be limited when it comes to things like severe over or underbite or severely crowded teeth, the treatment works out exceptionally for issues like:
- Gaps between the teeth
- Moderate underbite
- Improper spacing between teeth
- Misaligned bite
- Mild crowding issues
Myth: Invisalign is not the best option for teenagers.
Invisalign is often assumed to be the more “adult” option for smile correction, but that is simply an assumption. Bite correction works pretty much the same for people of all ages. And, teenagers can be especially self-conscious about traditional braces, so they often follow the Invisalign treatment protocol closely to avoid having to accept that option.
Myth: Invisalign braces take way more dental visits than typical braces.
Invisalign may actually take fewer trips to the Mountain View dentist office than traditional wire-and-bracket braces. You will be given a series of aligners to wear at your first visit, will come in for an assessment in about four to six weeks, and then get a new set of aligners. People with standard braces may visit the dentist every four to six weeks for an adjustment, but they also commonly have to come in for other reasons, such as broken wires or a dislodged bracket.
